‘Storytellers’ by Bjorn Larssen

This is the second “I’m so sorry” post I’m doing this week. As the other one (here), this review was supposed to be part of a blog tour. I owe a huge apology to Rachel and the author.

With this one it was all even trickier.

See, originally I was approved for a physical copy of the book. Between getting the green light on the book and actually getting it I moved from Hungary to Germany. Unfortunately, I told Rachel the book gets to me if it’s already on its way to my old address, because my grandmother lived there and she could send it to me forward.

Well, if you follow my blog, you already know that she’s not among us anymore.

Nobody lives there anymore.

That’s the story of why in the end I didn’t get a physical copy of the ‘Storytellers’. I don’t say this because I’m whining about it, I just thought I should let everyone know that the author was so nice that he would send physical copies to international (in this case European) bloggers. I truly appreciate that.

So… a lot late, but let’s talk about the book!

Discovery:

I only know about this book because of the blog tour… so, again I am incredibly sorry for not being a part of it.

Brainstorm:

Honestly, I don’t really know what I expected from this book. It sounded great, it had a beautiful cover, it seemed to be about telling stories. What’s not to like?

Well, it was everything it could’ve been and more.

This is the first novel I’ve read that’s set in Iceland, and I loved it! I loved getting to know it a little bit more, even from the author’s notes in the end!

This books gives a unique perspective. The characters are great, detailed, interesting, human. They feel like real people. Nobody and nothing is simply black or white, but it’s not simply because they’re pictured that way: it depends on whose POV we’re reading. On who the ‘storyteller’ is. These little pieces add up to creating live, real characters, and we ourselves can make up our minds about them. Just like in reality: we never really know what’s real and what isn’t, we get everything, every story through the filter of someone else’s mind.

Reading this book was quite a unique experience.

Some spirits or liqueurs, that’s for sure. Jägermeister could be a a good choice, for example.
