I’ve been a lover of classic crime stories since I was about 13. Growing up with an Agatha Christie enthusiast mother probably decided my fate on this! I loved mysteries even as a kid, and the first Christie book I read got me hooked forever. (Well, first five. I remember my mother giving me her 5 favorites and I binged them. I have no idea which one was the very first.)
My mom has over 50 Agatha Christie novels on her shelf (I think it’s more than 60, but I’m not 100% sure), and I’ve always wanted to read all of them one day. It has never happened, though. Regarding how many books I read, I could’ve easily done it by now, and I’ve attempted several times, but eventually I stopped every time and my attention was brought elsewhere. The reason’s probably that I usually don’t like to read very similar books right after each other. Sometimes, of course, I do, but it depends heavily on my mood and the book(s) – it might be only one of the same genre, or 2-3, but mostly I like to change it up a bit. This is where I hope a challenge would help me a lot with reading more of these books!
We’ve talked about a challenge like this with Rekha (@ The Book Decoder), because we both love these old classic crime novels, and as awesome she is, she created the challenge! Thank you, Rekha, both for the motivation and for being a person I can talk about these books! ❤
So, what is this challenge?
The purpose of this challenge is to encourage people to read more classic crime stories. There are literally hundreds (…thousands…?) of them out there, written by several very popular and less known authors! Many of them are real treasure. How great is this opportunity to discover “new” ones or re-read old favorites?!
The aim is to post twice a month during 2019, but at the end of the day it’s all on you. If you only manage one per month, it’s completely fine, and if you dive in and read more – the merrier! 😉 The essential is to have fun and love these old classics.

I’m very enthusiastic about this challenge, but I have to admit that I have a very unpredictable year coming, and I can’t yet make crystal clear plans free time-wise. So, I commit to at least 2 posts/month in January and February, and 1/month from then on, with a promise to make the most of my time, and trying to do more.
As for the ‘what’: I want to read mostly Agatha Christie novels (some new to me, some old loves) with adding a couple of other authors of the Golden Age to mix up. I won’t list them all here, because there’s so many! Look it up! 😉 Maybe you get in the mood to read some of their books.
I hope many of you will join this challenge, I can’t wait to write and talk about these awesome classic mysteries!
